Contextual Fit

The Smith Family has requested an addition to their house originally designed in 1965 by architect Richard Meier. The owners specifically request that the integrity of the original design be respected, yet the new addition should have its own presence.

Narrative

The Smiths are marine biologists. Their favorite aquatic animals are sharks, so they wanted their home to include their love for sharks in the architecture. The Smiths love to host gatherings with family and friends to talk about their research, so they need a big family room. Because the couple is getting old, they would like a master suite where they can take afternoon naps, as well as a master bath. Their primary care physicians also suggested they do some light exercise, so they also requested an exercise room.
